Fieldbook
The boundary model on a phone, and the field book written on top of it. Photo evidence, notes, markup and check measurements — each one georeferenced to where it was recorded, stored on the device, and exported as plain data when you are back at the desk.
Evidence lands where you stand.
A fieldbook entry is only as good as its position. Everything recorded in Fieldbook carries its provenance — the GPS fix and its accuracy, when it was taken, and whether a hand later moved it.
- Photo evidence
- Photos from the camera drop onto the canvas at the GPS fix, or at the EXIF position for camera-roll imports. Drag a pin to the true corner afterwards — the original fix stays on the record, so the photo keeps both where it was taken and where it belongs.
- Notes and tags
- Freeform notes anywhere on the canvas, with an optional short code — PEG FOUND, OCC FENCE — for filtering later. Tags can be shown and hidden per job, the way layers can.
- Markup
- Freehand sketch, lines, arrows and polygons drawn over the model, in the four data colours. Vertices stay editable; nothing is flattened into an image.
- Measure
- Tap out a line for a live distance readout. Measurements persist as annotations and are labelled as ellipsoidal distances — they are checks, not grid values.

Fieldbook is built for the .ncweb bundles NullCad exports, but it does not require one — bring the cadastre from another source, or start a blank job straight on the basemap.
- NullCad bundles
- Open a .ncweb bundle exported from NullCad desktop (Export → Web Viewer Bundle) — layers, phases, point labels and plan underlays, in the projection the job lives in.
- Other formats
- GeoJSON, KML and KMZ, and DXF. Formats that carry no coordinate system ask for one at import — an MGA zone or a local plane — and never guess.
- Basemaps
- A free vector basemap ships in the box, with LISTmap orthophoto for Tasmania beside it. Any WMS, ArcGIS or XYZ tile service can be added to the registry and chosen per job.
- Live position
- The device GPS draws where you stand on the model, with an honest accuracy circle in metres and a follow-me mode for walking onto a corner.
Built for where there is no signal.
- Installs from the browser
- Fieldbook is a web app: open it once, add it to the home screen, and it launches like any other app. Updates ask before they apply — nothing reloads mid-capture.
- Works without signal
- Jobs, photos and annotations are stored on the device, and basemap tiles you have already seen stay available. A job opened at the office keeps working in a valley.
- No account, no server
- There is nothing to sign in to and nothing is uploaded. Field data stays on the phone until you export it.
The field data leaves as data.
A day's work exports from the share sheet in two forms, both meant to outlive the app that made them.
- The .ncfield bundle
- One zip per job: a manifest, the annotations as plain GeoJSON in WGS84, and the photos as JPEG — linked back to the source drawing by checksum. It opens in any GIS today and is the import format for NullCad desktop.
- The field report
- A printable report from the share sheet: a map snapshot, the photo log with WGS84 and grid coordinates, fix accuracy and timestamps, and the notes and measurements in a table. Print to PDF and it files with the job.
Desk, field, desk.
Export the job from NullCad as a web viewer bundle and open it atfieldbook.nullcad.io — by AirDrop, drive or cable. Record the search in the field. Export the.ncfield bundle when you are back, and the evidence sits beside the plan it belongs to.
